I am Goda, a Lithuanian artist living in Belgium, whose work is deeply penetrated by a personal story of loss and longing.
When we lose someone, we deeply love, when we fall into an abyss of grief, and our life becomes shattered, where do we find strength and meaning to go on? Where does the light come while we are wondering in ruins blinded by pain? How does grief shape our identity? These are some fundamental questions that my work invites to reflect upon.
My paintings are an intimate story, and yet they are profoundly universal because loss is what ultimately connects us all as human beings.
Loss and longing are the forces destining us to search for something which is beyond words, which had been lost, or has not been found yet. It is because of the experience of absence and void that we, humans, endlessness strive to find a deeper meaning and connection.
My artwork aims at something enigmatic and unrepresentable. It is emotionally charged, nostalgic, raw and unpolished, and it captures aching vulnerability of our existence.
May my work be an invitation to the viewer to revisit memories and connect with the lost fragments of your life and identity. May it be an invitation to pause and reflect on what is that which in the deepest of the self you are longing for. May it offer openness and hope.
